Meet Kerrod - an intelligent wood worker who is a perfectionist in his work and loves to have meaningful conversation. Kerrod is also blind and deaf.
DW support workers Geoff and Peter (who are deaf) worked alongside Kerrod's existing support team (from other agencies) to train in his adjusted communication style. The connection Geoff & Peter had straight away was amazing! Geoff found out him and Kerrod went to the same deaf school and knew a lot of the same people. Support team member, Jenny wanted an innovative way of training support staff that would become a resource for providers while also telling the story of Kerrod’s rich and unique skills and abilities. Big congratulations to Jenny for 'thinking outside the box' and to the existing support staff that took the time to be involved with this project In this video, his family and friends show how they communicate. It's pretty obvious how much they treasure Kerrod's friendship and being a part of the rich life he lives!
