The team at David Wallis want to acknowledge the team at Westridge Medical and their incredible efforts to assist our participants. We needed to set up doctor's appointments for a Kurdish family who have 2 children with disabilities.
The appointment was for government required documentation and we would supply the needed interpreter. Our team were getting a little despondent contacting 4 other medical centres unable to take on the family due to the restrictions in 15-minute time limit appointments and the need for an interpreter. However, instead of focussing on restrictions, the helpful and very accommodating team at Westridge Medical instead found solutions to both help our vulnerable family while also keeping their staff safe with staggered appointments. A huge thank you to this wonderful team of health professionals for being inclusive and accommodating for people who require an interpreter in our multi-cultural Toowoomba Community! In other news…. Sandra the Adventurer has turned 55! Bree and Natasha - members of the DW team celebrated with a mini birthday party and cake. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SANDRA!!!! {But wait…there’s more!} Previous years, Sandra has never done anything to commemorate Anzac Day, but this year was able to place flowers at the Mother's Memorial in remembrance of her grandfather who fought in one of the wars. A beautiful moment to witness! As well as this, Sandra the Adventurer has been out enjoying the fresh air and the local gardens. She had never been to local treasure, Newtown Rose Gardens. With a beautiful place like this – the sights and smells – how could you not have a smile that big on your face?! Twelve months ago, Sandra had not left her house in years apart from medical appointments. Now she has enjoyed stretching her legs in local parks and gardens and her face says it all – along with her support workers Bree and Natasha, Sandra has loved every minute of it!
Introducing Cody. His support worker, Ota usually supports Cody by taking him to after-school outings including Scouts and enjoying many outside activities. Since the Covid-19 guidelines, they've had to adapt focus. Fortunately, Cody likes to cook so now, time together has changed by providing cooking coaching sessions for him. This is not limited to the cooking, but developing all the skills in the kitchen including washing up the dishes and putting them away :)
